Call to Action:
Recognizing the need of a Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in organizing vital data, information, and resources that could save lives, assist Member States in improving their readiness for and speedy response to public health emergencies; BE AWARE THAT THE STATES MEMBER OF THE AFRICAN UNION ARE AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF ESTABLISHING NATIONAL FUNCTIONAL PHEOCS TO COMPLY WITH THE INTERNATIONAL HEAL pledges to (IHR). PHEOC capacities are being established and strengthened throughout Africa thanks to close cooperation and efforts from the African Union Commission, the Africa CDC, WHO, and all partners.
The 14 member states of the Eastern Africa Region are served by the Eastern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (EA-RCC), which also manages CDC relationships, operations, and public health messaging in the region. In order to guarantee that public health actions in the region are coordinated and better integrated, it has been putting into practice the fortnightly virtual meetings of ECHO in the region and supporting advocacy and consultations with Member States. In reaction to disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies in Eastern Africa, the RCC is actively involved. Viral hemorrhagic fevers, like as Rift Valley fever (RVF), which affects a sizable number of the Member States, are among the region's top infectious diseases.
